Jewelry artist Deb Steele incorporates gold, gems, pearls and even beach glass in her wearable art.
Jewelry artist Deb Steele creates fine, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind wearable art that can be found at DragonFire Gallery in Cannon Beach. Many of her designs are inspired by the natural world, incorporating organic designs, trees and leaves. Her contemporary silver jewelry pieces are often embellished with 22k-24k gold, gems, pearls and found beach glass. Steele's pieces are crafted largely from precious metal clay, which she discovered when looking for a solution to combine her silver designs with fused glass cabochons by fellow DragonFire artist Ann Cavanaugh. She found that the fine silver clay bonded beautifully with the glass at high temperatures in a kiln and it offered her the versatility of carving, molding and sculpting her designs in ways not possible in traditional metalsmithing. Steele is a certified PMC Artisan and teacher in the craft. She has been nationally-recognized in jewelry publications and has taken part in an exhibition of top national artists at Purdue University's Ringel Gallery. DragonFire Gallery, 123 S Hemlock Street, Cannon Beach (503) 436-1532.
