Platinum recording artists Marv and Rindy Ross, founders of the successful 1980s rock group Quarterflash, will headline the musical performances at Cannon Beach, Oregon's 32nd annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival, November 1-3. The pair will be joined in concert by Portland indie roots rocker Jon Koonce to celebrate the release of their new CD "New American Blues."
For over 30 years, the Stormy Weather Arts Festival in Cannon Beach has been one of the most popular events in the town recognized as one of the 100 best art towns in America. The weekend is jam-packed with art events as Cannon Beach galleries present special events showcasing the artists they represent with several nationally-known artists on hand to share their latest works, conduct demonstrations or discuss their art.
Other musical performers during the festival include the folk super-group The Portlanders, who perform a Friday evening concert and 1920s and 30s style bluesman Steve Cheseborough who is featured on Sunday for an event titled Brews, Blues & Barbecue. On Saturday of the festival, visitors can wander from gallery to gallery, enjoying free live music with regional musicians at indoor and outdoor venues throughout the town as they go.
The Rosses, with Koonce, and The Portlanders will perform in Cannon Beach's Coaster Theatre Playhouse, an intimate 200-seat venue. With Quarterflash, the Rosses are noted for their top-ten hit "Harden My Heart" that reached number three on the Billboard charts and their self-titled debut album, "Quarterflash," sold over a million copies, reaching Platinum status in 1982. They have toured with Elton John, Linda Ronstadt and The Beach Boys. Koonce is an Oregon Music Hall of Fame member and self-proclaimed 'working man's troubadour who has been performing rock for decades and has shared concert bills with the likes of Tom Petty, Asia, Joan Jett and Joe Ely. The Rosses, with Koonce, will perform in concert on Saturday evening of the festival.
Folk super-group The Portlanders hits the stage on Friday night. Members of the group have a combined 200 years of experience playing folk music. Both concerts begin at 7:30pm, with doors opening at 7pm.
In addition to special events in the galleries, Stormy Weather Arts Festival includes the "Dancing in the Rain," fashion show featuring apparel by local and national designers.
