Bronze sculpture by Steve Tyree.
Bronze sculpture by Steve Tyree.

Artist Steve Tyree hand forges each sculpture.

Forging his powerful images from sheets of bronze by cutting, welding, hammering and grinding, Steve Tyree captures birds and animals austere in form, but graceful and lively. Tyree's pieces are owned and shown throughout the United States and around the world. On the coast they can be seen at Lawrence Gallery in Gleneden Beach. His work is slow and labor-intensive, but produces a unique result. Each bronze is an absolutely original piece of art, completed from beginning to end by the artist himself without the use of molds or foundries. Steve says that "some are standing pieces, some are hanging - it depends on the bird or animal." He attempts to express his appreciation of wildlife by evoking the inherent spirit of each subject, showing through his art their grace and motion. Ron Lahey, general manager of Lawrence Galleries says: "Steve might do more than one of a certain piece, but because he fabricates instead of casting, each piece of art is unique." For art lovers interested in owning his work, the idea of having an original is an extra, added attraction - over and above the beauty of his pieces. Lawrence Gallery in Gleneden Beach is located off Highway 101 at the Shops at Salishan, (800) 764-2318 or (541) 764-2318.
