Oregon Dungeness Crab is not just celebrated for its unique sweet flavor of the sea by the likes of culinary giants including Julia Child and Oregon's own James Beard, but it is also lauded for its nutritional value. It's also one of Oregon's most sustainable fisheries where our crabbing fleet is made up of independent family fishermen and women who have chosen crabbing as a way of life, embracing a life where hard work and rugged spirit are rewarded by the delicious bounty of the ocean. Oregon Dungeness is one of the meatiest crabs available and it's low in fat, calories, cholesterol and carbohydrates. A 3-ounce portion of cooked crab yields 19 grams of protein and contains important minerals and amino acids including Omega-3 that is proven to decrease triglycerides, increase levels of "good" cholesterol, lower blood pressure, strengthen immunity and even improve arthritis symptoms. The American Heart Association recommends adults eat two servings per week of seafood that is high in Omega-3s that can help reduce inflammation, a key to lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke.
