Concerts by Oregon blues greats Curtis Salgado and Lloyd Jones will highlight a full weekend of art events and musical performances at Cannon Beach's 31st annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival, November 2-4, 2018. Throughout the weekend, the public will also have the opportunity to attend receptions and meet notable Northwest artists, some as they discuss or demonstrate their techniques in sculpting, painting and photography.
Portland roots artist Lloyd Jones has recorded six critically acclaimed albums and earned awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cascade Blues Association and an induction into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. Curtis Salgado's 30-plus year career has featured performances alongside the likes of Muddy Waters and Bonnie Raitt, along with recognition including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and three-time Soul Blues Artist of the Year at the Blues Music Awards. Both shows start at 7:30pm, with tickets for Lloyd Jones and his Big Band on Friday evening priced at $35 and tickets for Curtis Salgado's Saturday performance priced at $40. Blues fans will want to stick around Sunday for Brews, Blues & Barbeques, enjoying live blues, local beers and a barbecue lunch.
Work by visiting artists will be featured throughout the weekend at receptions, themed shows and demonstrations. Among the visiting artists is sculptor Georgia Gerber, who is known for her 25 bronze wildlife sculptures at Portland's Pioneer Square Courthouse and the life-size "piggy bank," Rachel, at the entrance to the Pike Place Public Market in Seattle. Gerber will discuss her work at Northwest by Northwest Gallery. Work by Cannon Beach's best-known resident artists will also be showcased during the festival including paintings by Jeffrey Hull and blown glass by Jim Kingwell and Suzanne Kindland, all of whom have been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Art Beat" television program.
