On the Go in Seaside

There are several ways to see Seaside, Oregon on the go for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities in and around Seaside will get you moving on foot, on wheels, on water and in the air.

ON FOOT

Hikers can traverse the Tillamook Head National Recreation Trail that follows the western edge of the headland, through thick coastal forest to Ecola State Park, or choose any of the other world-class hikes nearby. Stretch your legs with a stroll along Broadway in downtown Seaside or on one of the three area golf courses. Seaside has a nine-hole public course and Gearhart is home to Gearhart Golf Links, the oldest public course in Oregon. Seaside also offers six local parks, including a state-of-the-art sports field to run, play and relax.

ON WHEELS

Bring your own wheels or check out area shops like the Prom Bike Shop north of town or Wheel Fun Rentals in three locations downtown, both offering rentals on a variety of wheels including skates, roller blades, kid and adult bikes, mopeds and electric cars, surreys large and small, beach cycles and even strollers and wheelchairs. The region offers many bike trails for the leisurely sightseer to the serious biker. Ride along the 1.5-mile Seaside Prom or challenge yourself to a 42-mile loop. Skaters, BMX riders and skateboarders can experience an award-winning skate park located at Broadway Park.

ON WATER

Seaside's waterways provide scenic avenues for kayaks, canoes and paddleboats to explore Seaside from a unique perspective. Rent a paddleboat, canoe or kayak or launch your own at the Necanicum River dock near the convention center for a memorable river experience. ON WING

See Seaside from a bird's eye perspective by taking to the air in a helicopter or plane for a scenic aerial tour of the region. Seaside Helicopters south of town offers scenic tours of the region at Seaside Airport, you may find biplane touring flights on occasion. Discover Paragliding offers some high-flying excitement on the beach where you can get a unique bird's eye view of the area. Grab your binoculars and visit the lively estuaries to watch for the hundreds of bird species that make this area their home.

ON THE HOOK

Catch your dinner in Seaside! There are lots of opportunities to partake in the bounty from the sea. Dig for razor clams at the shoreline during low tides or throw a crab pot off the 12th Avenue Bridge and try your hand at capturing some tasty crustaceans. You can also drop a line to fish from area bridges and docks or charter a sport or commercial fishing boat. Some area shops carry equipment for purchase or rent, like shovels, clam gun, rubber boots and crab pots. A license is required to fish and to harvest clams and shellfish. No clamming is allowed on Seaside beaches from July 15 - September 30, as juveniles develop during this time period. Be sure to check into seasons and license requirements with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
