If you're planning an Oregon Coast adventure this summer you'll surely want to make a stop at the new Tillamook Creamery Visitor Center. For more than six decades the creamery has welcomed visitors from all over the county to the Tillamook cheese factory landmark just off Highway 101. The new visitor center is set to open its doors to the public on June 20, 2018.
Designed by award-winning Seattle based architectural firm Olsen Kundig the new 38,500 square-foot facility is not a cheesy venture. According to creamery communications manager Tori Harms, the project includes enhancements to the overall visitor experience like increased outdoor and indoor seating area, more signage for the historical wing and built-in design fixes to address those lengthy lines for ice cream.
The museum-like exhibits attract visitors of all ages to learn about cows, dairy technology and life on the farm. An impressive new addition to the facility is a research development work space where visitors can participate in some serious taste tests. The cafe will still feature its signature grilled cheese along with some new menu items such as, wood fire pizza and Pacific Northwest wine and brews. A new coffee and yogurt bar installation where visitors can purchase coffee and espresso drinks and customize their favorite Tillamook Yogurt with a variety of toppings. In addition to more samples than ever before, the large retail space features Tillamook products and gifts all in one easy to shop area.
