The latest in lighting that has interior designers all abuzz is Kichler's new lineup of Taskwork LED Tape Light. This fun and functional new lighting product can go where no light has gone before. "This product is basically a strip of 3M tape with tiny LED lights on it," says Becky Foley, lighting expert at Lighting Too in Newport. "You can use it as either task lighting or accent lighting on all kinds of surfaces."
This lighting is fully dimmable and comes in a variety of brightness ranges and colors, including clear, blue, red, green and yellow. The line also comes in three application types - indoor dry, indoor damp (for kitchens, bath and bar areas) and outdoor varieties – so its uses are bound only by your imagination. Not only can you use it as under cabinet lighting or accent lighting for a home theater, you can also install this task lighting outdoors. Use it to accent hardscapes, to light railings, steps and planters on decks and patios, or to highlight benches and grill areas.
"It's easy to install," says Foley, "and being LED and rated for approximately 50,000 hours, it's also easy on the energy bill." The Tape Light comes in rolls, so you simply cut the length of lights you need and click indoor or outdoor connectors to feed the power supply. Other accessories are available.
Costs for a Tape Light system vary, so your best bet is to take some measurements and some photos of your area, then visit your local lighting experts to get an estimate. Be sure to factor in the long-term savings your home will realize in light of the LED efficiency of this fun new product.
