The horse-drawn wagons are long gone, but day-trippers continue to make unforgettable memories at this scenic cove.

Easy beach access with iconic Oregon Coast views, captivating caves, a picturesque waterfall tumbling from the sculpted sandstone and great picnic spots along a serene, sheltered beach make Hug Point nothing short of heavenly. The site makes for a great wayside stop-off during your wanderings between the busy North Coast towns of Manzanita and Cannon Beach. It's pristine, easily accessible, often secluded and boasts some dramatic coastal scenery including a view of Haystack Rock to the north.

When the tide is out, you'll have ample space to explore a series of coves and caves to the north that are full of marine surprises. A charming little waterfall completes the picture at this pint-sized cove, but watch out for the high tide, which can sneak up fast and limit access back to the parking area. Keep an eye out for the wagon-wheel ruts around the point that are still visible along the point's soft rock trails and ponder the many visitors who came before you on journeys just a bit more arduous.

Take your sweetheart in your arms, watch the sun drop down into the Pacific Ocean and opt for a literal interpretation of this sweet spot's given name.

Hug Point State Recreation Site is located five miles south of Cannon Beach and 10 miles north of Manzanita on U.S. Highway 101.
