With nearly a million visitors a year, the Tillamook Cheese Factory is one of the Oregon Coast's most popular attractions and a brand name known nationwide.

There are many reasons why the Tillamook Cheese Factory, in Tillamook, Oregon attracts nearly a million coastal visitors each year: its world famous cheese, ice cream and fudge to name a few. At the factory's visitor center you can sample several varieties of cheese and watch the cheese making process from viewing areas on a self-guided tour where you will learn about the history of cheese making. Interactive kiosk screens tell the story of the Tillamook County Creamery cooperative, formed in 1909 when 10 local cheese makers joined together to assure that the highest standards were adhered to in the making and marketing of their cheese.

It won't be long before the aroma of freshly baked waffle cones leads you to the ice cream counter where you can choose from nearly 40 flavors, including Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Oregon Strawberry. There are a few flavors that are only available at the factory such as Carmel Butter Pecan and Sticky Bun ice cream. At the fudge counter there are nearly 30 varieties of fudge to tempt you. A few samples can help you decide.

The visitor center is also a fun shopping experience. Of course, a wide range of Tillamook Cheese varieties are available, but you'll also find a huge selection of other local and regional specialty food products including seafood and meat products, gourmet sauces, candy, jams and condiments. There's also a large gift shop with many country-inspired items and coastal souvenirs. The Creamery Cafe in the visitor center offers breakfast and lunch.

The Tillamook Cheese Factory is located at 4175 Highway 101 North, Tillamook (503) 815-1300 or (800) 542-7290.
