Fat Bike riders are invited to join the first ever Fat Bike experience on the Oregon Coast in the picturesque community of Cannon Beach, April 20-22. Events planned throughout the weekend include sunset beach ride and bonfire with Fat Bike games and activities, a Saturday poker ride and after party at local pub and finishing off the event by celebrating Earth Day on Sunday with a Fat Bike Beach Clean Up.
The festival kicks off on Friday with a sunset ride in the shadow of the iconic Haystack Rock. Activities around the bonfire include a slow race, obstacle course and various Fat Bike skills competitions. Enjoy delicious beverages from local craft brewers Public Coast and Pelican Brewery, and sit around the fire as the sun sets at Tolovana Beach. Family and friends are welcome to watch Friday night Fat Bike Rodeo and stay for s'mores.
Saturday's 14-mile beach ride will take you from Ecola Creek, past Haystack Rock, to Arch Cape and back. Along the way there will be several "poker stops" where riders will learn of the local ecology from Haystack Rock Awareness Program. End the day at Public Coast Brewing where their motto is, "Beaches Forever Beer for Everyone!" Snack, sip craft-brewed beer and see if you win a variety of great prizes. The grand prize is two nights at SurfSand Resort. Those with best poker hands during the day's ride will be winners. You will have plenty of time on Saturday afternoon to browse, shop, eat, play and discover the many treasures of Cannon Beach.
Celebrate Earth Day on Sunday by joining forces with Surfrider to participate in the Fat Bike Beach Clean Up where you help to clean up, reuse and recycle. Certain plastics collected will be given to local artists for jewelry making that helps fund stewardship and environmental educational programs.
Many Cannon Beach properties are offering lodging deals for registrants. There will be some Fat Bikes available for people to demo if you don't yet have their own. For more information on the weekends activities visit bikecannonbeach.com.
