Saltwater taffy and more sweet treats can be found at Cannon Beach's candy stores.

There's something sweet about a visit to Cannon Beach and it's not just the beautiful beach. Candy stores are a tradition for beach goers and there's no confection that says "beach vacation" more than salt water taffy. The chewy morsel has been a part of a trip to the beach since at least the 1880s with some of its earliest known roots traced to Atlantic City, New Jersey. For nearly 50 years, Cannon Beach visitors have made a pilgrimage to Bruce's Candy Kitchen, where the windows of the pink and white striped building frame a view of the taffy making process. Visitors are mesmerized by the classic taffy pulling machine and amazed at the design and function of the 1908 automated taffy wrapper. Bruce's makes 25 flavors of their own salt water taffy. There was a candy store at this location even before 1963, when the store became Bruce's, a family-owned business where four generations of the family have been involved in candy making. Bruce's also makes its own hand dipped chocolates and a wide assortment of other candies and gifts. For even more taffy flavors, check out The Picnic Basket's 94 flavors of the chewy classic. How about blueberry cheesecake, pina colada or carrot cake taffy? The Picnic Basket has been a sweet destination in Cannon Beach for 25 years. In addition to a multitude of taffy flavors, they offer 24 kinds of fudge, 32 unique types of Tillamook ice cream, chocolates and other candies.
