Savor Cannon Beach Wine & Culinary Festival March 8-11, 2012. 

The current schedule of events for Savor Cannon Beach Wine & Culinary Festival March 8-11, 2012 in Cannon Beach, Oregon is now available. The festival events include wine tastings, wine dinners and a wine walk with tastings throughout town from over 20 Northwest wineries. Wine tasting events occur each day of the festival and restaurants host wine dinners and special pairing menus while local retailers offer their own tasting events ranging from specialty salts to gourmet chocolates over the four days. SAVOR CANNON BEACH 2012 FESTIVAL EVENTS:

Thursday, March 8
5-7pm – THURSDAY NIGHT THROWDOWN: OREGON VS WASHINGTON WINES
Participants taste three red and three white wines in head to head match-ups by varietal (a total of 12 wines) and vote on their favorites. LOCATION: Cannon Beach Community Hall, 207 N. Spruce St.

Friday, March 9
1-2:30pm – KNOW YOUR NORTHWEST WINE VARIETALS
Do you know your Bordeaux from your Burgundy from your Rhone? This seminar offers an introduction to Northwest wine varietals. You'll taste your way through wine regions and learn about flavor profiles, pairings, serving and storage of some of the most popular wine varietals in the Northwest with Hank and Nancy Sauer. LOCATION: Tolovana Inn, 3400 S. Hemlock

4:30-6:30pm – BATTLE OF THE BLENDS
Attendees will taste several red and white wine blends from various regions of the Northwest. LOCATION: Cannon Beach Community Hall, 207 N. Spruce St.

7pm - Restaurant wine dinners, pairings menus and tasting events

Saturday, March 10
11:30am-1pm - WINE & CHEESE PAIRING PROGRAM
Discover the secrets and learn the art of pairing wine and cheese in this seminar with Andy Perdue, editor-in-chief of Wine Press Northwest magazine. In this session, you will have the opportunity to taste several Northwest artisan cheeses and learn how they meld with select regional wines. LOCATION: Surfsand Resort, 148 W. Gower

2-5pm – WINTER WINE TOUR
Participants purchase a glass, then visit more than 20 local businesses to taste a variety of Northwest wines. All Proceeds benefit the Cannon Beach Children's Center. LOCATION: Check-in begins at 1pm at Coaster Theatre, 108 N. Hemlock or Tolovana Inn, 3400 S. Hemlock

OTHER EVENTS DURING THE FESTIVAL WEEKEND

All Weekend
At the Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge you'll find the Elk Cove Winemaker's Tasting Menu available. This menu pairs select Elk Cove Vineyard's wines with three gourmet offerings for $59 per person. An Apricot Salad is paired with a 2011 Pinot Gris, a 2009 Riesling is then paired with Columbia River Sturgeon and finally a Beef Tournedos plate is paired with a 2009 Pinot Noir. [MORE]

Cannon Beach Treasure Company presents "A Taste of History" treasure exhibit featuring vessels and serving pieces found in several different shipwrecks. Historians Robert and April Knecht will be on hand to share the real life stories of these treasures. [MORE]

Cannon Beach Gallery presents an art exhibit, "Fruits Of Our Labor" In a nod to Savor Cannon Beach, this invitational show will highlight artwork that is thematically related to growing, preparing and enjoying food. Works will include blown glass cupcakes by Jon Cook as well as sumptuous oil paintings by Brian Cameron and Suzy Kitman.

Icefire Glassworks will feature handblown glass goblets by Portland, Oregon artist Lynn Read. He will demonstrate his techniques on Saturday, March 10 from 10am-Noon. Raffle tickets will be available at Icefire for a piece of art glass by Jim Kingwell with the raffle drawing conducted following the glassblowing demonstration on Saturday and all proceeds benefit the Cannon Beach Pre-School and Children's Center.

Lumberyard Rotisserie & Grill is offering a dinner deal during regular hours over the weekend. The deal includes an Epic Lumberyard Burger and a flight of three Fort George Brewery beers for $14.99. [MORE]

Primary Elements Gallery will feature original stained glass pieces by Ron Rogers. The glass artwork displays a wine theme.

A Tasting for Dogs: Puppy Love by the Sea, Cannon Beach's pet boutique will offer treat tastings for dogs each day of the festival.

11–11:45AM - Chocolate 101: a free seminar and an overview of the world of chocolate – where it grows and how it goes from bean to luscious. 7pm - Winemaker Dinner Show with Tamarack Cellars at EVOO Cannon Beach Cooking School. Dinner will feature five entrée plates paired with five premium wines. 8am-Noon - Sea Ranch Resort: Sundance Tea & Coffee Bar featuring cold-brewed organic coffee and tea. Cold brewing extracts the natural, unique, rich, full body taste of organic coffee or tea without the bitter acids and oils. Can be served either hot or cold.

10am-Noon - Icefire Glassworks will feature a glassblowing demonstration by Portland, Oregon artist Lynn Read who will demonstrate his techniques creating hand blown goblets.

11am-2pm - Salt Tasting at EVOO: Compare and contrast cooking salts and finishing salts and learn what varieties are available for different applications. Drop in any time 11am-2pm and they'll drop everything for your salt enlightenment! 188 S Hemlock, FREE

1-2pm - Artist Cathleen Rehfeld will be at Northwest By Northwest Gallery painting still lifes of wine bottles and glasses. She will paint en plein air (outside) weather permitting. Rehfeld has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Oregon Art Beat" program.

1-3pm – Book Signing with "Dishing Up Oregon" author Ashley Gartland
This collection of 150 recipes, many of them contributed by Oregon's own chefs, innkeepers, farmers, and other food producers, celebrates the delicious diversity of Oregon's cuisine. You'll find mouthwatering dishes for every meal and every course and beautiful photography of farms, inns, vineyards, and more. 2-5pm - Chocolate Tasting at Chocolate Cafe: Choose the "truffle tour" and taste seven different truffles or the "chocolate from around the world" tour featuring seven pure chocolates from South America, the Carribean, Africa, Madagascar and Indonesia/New Guinea. 2-5pm - Bronze Coast Gallery will host artist Marji Scott and feature her nature-inspired jewelry. Scott uses her abilities as a sculptor to create a miniature world of birds, nests, branches and grasses in bronze and steel. Her line of jewelry reflects her appreciation of beauty and the natural world. She creates pieces in bronze with soft patinas, polished silver, or a mixture of both.
