Original Watercolor with Crinkle Technique at Jeffery Hull Gallery In Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach artist Jeffrey Hull contemplates the beautiful but fragile ecosystem on Oregon’s North Coast in his work titled “Standing Together.” The original watercolor was painted during the first annual Earth & Ocean Arts Festival and is so appropriate as together we stand to support each other and the beautiful but fragile ecosystem on the North Coast. Hull composition is created using his “crinkle” technique, which entails soaking the watercolor paper until it’s so saturated it looks like a noodle. The cotton paper is then wadded-up into a ball, resulting in slight cracks in the paper. As paint is added the background takes on a crinkly look and over time, a painting emerges. The last few brush strokes of gold pigment on the sunlit side of the tree is where the painting comes together.
