Otter Crest Viewpoint
Perched cliff-side atop 500-foot Cape Foulweather, the Otter Crest State Scenic Viewpoint offers the closest thing to an aerial view while keeping your feet on the ground along this stretch of coast. A paved viewpoint looks south to Otter Rock and Devils Punchbowl with Yaquina Head and Lighthouse in the distance. A gift shop and Oregon State Parks interpretive center offers a beautiful view of the coastline to the north. This a great place for watching whales that are frequently spotted nearly year-round. When traveling south, I prefer to turn off on the Otter Crest Loop just past the Rocky Creek wayside, winding up the edge of the cape, passing through woodlands and emerging at the dramatic viewpoint. You can then continue south along Otter Crest Loop to reach nearby Devil's Punchbowl.
